warping (dict)

Warping

In navigation warping is a (slow) method of progressing in still waters or against the wind. It can be effected by throwing or shooting a warp anchor towards your intended direction of progress and as it settles, reeling it in; thus propelling the vessel in that direction. A warp anchor can be a dedicated device, or one may use a normal anchor or more usually, a drag anchor.
