Waraqah Ibn NawfalWaraqah ibn Nawfal, Waraqah ibn Nawfal ibn Assad ibn al-Azi ibn Kassi Al-Korshy (Arabic ورقه بن نوفل بن أسد بن عبد العزي بن قصي القرشي ) is the parental cousin of Khadija's, Muhammad's first wife. Waraqah was a Nestorian monk, Mecca's priest or preacher accoriding to some sources, and died a Christian of the Nestorian sect. Reputed to having written the Bible in Hebrew and presided over Muhammad's wedding. Claims that the marriage was officiated under Christian doctrines as inferred from monogamy and absence of divorce, vis a vis polygamy and divorce allowed in Islam are of little importance as Khadija is the second Muslim after Muhammad and the first female Muslim. The two converted to Islam after the marriage. Waraqah according to the Sira According to the sira, the traditional Muslim biographies of Muhammad, which speaks highly of Warqah, Waraqah was a pious monk who recognized the signs of prophethood when Muhammad recieved the first Muslim revelation. Some Muslims regard this as a specific fulfillment of Isaiah 29:11-18. (See surat Al-Alaq for a fuller account.) Waraqah according to the Hadith Hadith mentions Waraqah as having appeard in a dream in the garb of people of paradise.
