Wankhede Stadium

The Wankhede Stadium is the largest cricket stadium in the Indian city of Mumbai. The stadium is named after a BCCI head. It was opened in 1974? and took over Brabourne Stadium as the main cricketing venue in the city. The stadium has a small ground in relation to other stadiums with a modest capacity of 20,000. It is located near Churchgate station in South Mumbai. The stadium is run by the Mumbai Cricket Association. The cricket pitch is known to offer assistance to bowlers and is largely a spinner and pace friendly track. It offers spin and bounce to spin bowlers and bounce to fast bowlers. In 1995 the stadium was upgraded and lights were added to host day and night games. Later, in 1996 it hosted an India-Australia match in the 1996 Cricket World Cup. The infrastructure of stadium is lax with poor seating and few toilets.
