Walker Art Center

This page is about the 'Walker Art Center' in Minneapolis, the Walker Art Gallery is in Liverpool. The Walker Art Center is a modern art museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Along with the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, it is located near downtown, just across Interstate 94 from Loring Park (with which the museum grounds are connected by a pedestrian bridge). The museum was founded by lumber magnate Thomas B. Walker in the 1890s from the displays in his home as the Walker Art Gallery. A building was opened in 1927 and in 1941 it became the Walker Art Center. The current building opened in 1971 adjacent to the Guthrie Theater.
