Wacken

The Wacken Open Air Festival (WOA) is the biggest metal-festival in Europe. It takes place annually in the small town of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany. In the face of its gigantic size (over 30,000 visitors per year) it attracts metal fans from whole Europe and even beyond. It usually takes place in mid-summer and lasts three days, during which the visiting people camp on several large camping grounds surrounding the actual festival area. During these three days there are concerts by up to 40 bands on 4 different stages. The music styles include True Metal, Power metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Folk Metal and Gothic Metal. Some of the better-known bands to play at WOA include Dimmu Borgir, Twisted Sister, Saxon, Warlock, Satyricon (together with Nocturno Culto (Darkthrone)), Nightwish, Motrhead, Manowar, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Gamma Ray and many more.
