W5

W5 (a/k/a W-FIVE or W5 with Eric Malling) is a Canadian news magazine television series which has aired on the CTV Television Network since 1966. The title refers to the five W's of journalism: Who, What, Where, When and Why? For several years in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the program used a portion of Supertramp's "Fool's Overture" as its theme music. W5 came under controversy during the seventies when it aired an episode that blamed Chinese and Chinese Canadian students for "hogging" post-secondary spots (and therefore limiting other Canadians from going into College or University somehow), without exploring the statement's backgrounds. As well, it did not determine if the people filmed in its images (in that particular episode) were actually Chinese or Chinese Canadian. After protests by Chinese Canadians which included later-founder of the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care Dr. Joseph Wong, W5 later retracted their statement and apologised. Hosts and reporters associated with the show have included:
