Volkswagen Gol

, and is a design unique to
Latin America
. It is produced as a
hatchback
, but there is also a
station wagon
version, known as the
Parati
in Brazil and the
Gol Country
in
Argentina
. The Gol, which takes its name from the
Portuguese
word for 'goal', is not to be confused with the
VW Golf
. The Gol is also sold in
Mexico
as the
Volkswagen Pointer
, a name previously used in
Brazil
and
Argentina
for a model based on the
Ford Escort
. The
sedan
and wagon versions were sold in the
US
and
Canada
as the
Volkswagen Fox
in the mid-
1980s
