³ Pokmon Red/Blue/Yellow | Vulpix (Rokon (ロコン Rokon) in the original Japanese) is a Pokmon. Vulpix, in Pokmon Red and Blue, lives in the wilds of Mt. Pyre, Pokmon Mansion, and Routes 7 and 8. Its basic combat is to daze and confuse its opponents with its powerful Confuse Ray and then traps them in its powerful Fire Spin technique. It can learn other powerful fire-type techniques, such as Flamethrower. According to the Pokdex, at birth, it has only one tail, but as it matures, the tail splits at the tip, into six tails. Vulpix is impervious to fire moves, as they also heal Vulpix when struck. To evolve a Vulpix into a Ninetales, you must give it a Fire Stone, but be cautioned, because if you evolve a Vulpix right after you capture one, it will not be able to learn the powerful techniques it can only learn in the Vulpix stage. Name origin The name Vulpix is a combination of the words vulpes and six. Vulpes is a latin word used to identify fox genus and six indicates that it has six tails. Anime Appearances In the Pokmon series, Brock, the ex- gym leader of Pewter City, and traveling companion of Ash Ketchum, is given a Vulpix by a Pokmon breeder named Suzy. He gave Vulpix back to Suzy in "Beauty and the Breeder."
