vreux is a commune of Normandy, France, in the Eure dpartement, of which it is the prfecture (capital). This city name originates from the gallic tribe if Eburovices (lit. Those which overcome by the yew?) (from Gaulish eburo-) The city is near the Iton river.

History

During the Ancien Rgime, it was the seat of comt d'vreux and vch d'vreux. The city was heavily damaged during the Second World War, and most of its center was rebuilt.

There are remains of some monuments dating back to the Middle Ages.
