Voltage-controlled Filter

A voltage-controlled filter is a signal processing device in a modular analog synthesizer positioned after the oscillator. The oscillator generates the signal, the pitch and the overtones. The purpose of the filter is to cut off the unwanted overtones, and leave only the wanted frequencies of the sound. There are several common kinds of filters:
  • highpass - Passes (allows) the high frequencies (those above the cutoff point)
  • bandpass - Leaves only the mid-range frequencies
  • band reject - Cuts out mid-range frequencies
*lowpass - Allows the low frequencies (below the cutoff point)
