Void Deck

A void deck is a spacious area under a Housing and Development Board apartment block in Singapore. It is on ground level; apartments are usually on the 2nd floor onwards. Sometimes, events like Malay weddings, Chinese weddings or even funeral wakes are held in such places. Rentals of void decks are typically around S$10 per day, and for funeral wakes, usually free. However, usage of electricity is also charged separately. Minimarts (the Singaporean equivalent of grocery stores), medical and dental clinics, bakeries and other shops are often located in void decks. Parking facilities for bicycles are located there. Benches and tables are also installed in void decks for residents' use.
