Vivian Fuchs

Sir Vivian Ernest Fuchs (February 11 1908-November 11 1999) was a British explorer. Fuchs was born in Kent. He is best known as the leader of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition to celebrate the International Geophysical Year, 1957. The expedition was the first to cross the continent of Antarctica. In 1958, Fuchs was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
