Visual Editor

Visual editors are editors which display the text being edited on the screen as it is being edited, as opposed to line-oriented editors (such as ed, ex and edlin). The term is generally used in discussing character mode, as opposed to GUI, applications. All GUI editors are visual editors, but not all character mode editors are.
