Visoko

Visoko is a small but famous and noteworthy city in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located in the Zenica-Doboj Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina entity. The Bosna river flows through the city. It is famous for it's leather industry and the city is home to the KTK Leather Company, which is the largest in the country. In the Middle Ages, Visoko was the social, economic and political capital of Bosnia, earning it the title of a royal town. The city is first mentioned in 1355 in a chart made for Dubrovnik merchants by Kulin ban. Visoko was center of Bosnian Bogumil curch with bischup placed in Biskupici area 4 km away from Visoko. Name Visoko is a new name for the town, old name was Visoki, and it means High place (highes place) because the king's town was on top of the nearby montain Visocica. Urban city layes down and named Podvisoki. All trade from Visoko to Dubrovnik was starting in Podvisoki. Salt from Soli (now Tuzla), Iron from Vares and Leather from Visoko.
