Vic GodardVic Godard is a former punk rocker whose band was called the Subway Sect. They had a few hits on the indie rock charts but never troubled the "real" one. Godard admitted in the late 70s that they were musically incompetent and had only joined the punk bandwagon as it seemed as if it was going somewhere. Years later he would denounce the music as rubbish. His first LP of the 80s included a duet with Virginia Astley who possibly helped to steer him into more pastoral sounds. This album was more or less reissued under a new title but the original Retrospective is quite rare as are virtually all the singles. After a 2nd album which featured a slew off session musicians, Godard had totally reinvented himself as something close to a lounge singer. His voice was distintive enough in a Marc Bolan sort of way, but he was unlikely to rise above a Cult Artiste, meaning nothing in the States and even at one time leaving the music business to work for the Post Office. In the later 90s the Godard reissue program began, and there were soon more CDs on the market than the man's entire output of the preceding decade. All had informative sleeve notes. His label Motion has its own website where a full discography and interviews can be found.
