Very Pistol

A Very pistol is a pistol used to fire colored flares, often to draw attention to an emergency. It is named after Edward Very (18471910), an American naval officer who developed and popularized it. It is invariably a single-shot breech-loading snug-nosed pistol, with modern varieties frequently made out of brightly-colored, durable plastic.
