Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,227 people, 2,380 households, and 2,122 families residing in the town. The population density is 86.5/km² (224.1/mi²). There are 2,405 housing units at an average density of 28.8/km² (74.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.39% White, 0.46% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,380 households out of which 41.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 82.9% are married couples living together, 3.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 10.8% are non-families. 7.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.00 and the average family size is 3.18.
