Venus Envy (Comic Strip)Venus Envy is a web comic written and drawn by Erin Lindsey, dealing with transgender issues. It started on December 1, 2001. At first it was an isolated series of jokes, with a transgender theme. The current story-line started on December 31, and deals with the life of a young transsexual girl named Zo Carter. She has started at a new school (having had to move towns along with her family due to harassment). Major supporting characters include Lisa, who knows Zo's secret, Larson, a transsexual boy (who has been illicitly taking testosterone) and Eric, Zo's promiscuous boyfriend. Her parents are Robert, a teacher, and Helen, an anesthesiologist. Helen is still sceptical about this development in her life, but Robert is more accepting. Zo's younger brother, Richie, was initially highly intolerant, but has somewhat warmed to her in more recent strips. The strip started off 5 days a week but is now more usually 3 a week. In 2003 the author published a paper spin-off: 'Venus Envy #1 - Alex or Zoe: From A to Z', which included the first few weeks of the original storyline, along with some new material depicting Zo's life immediately after transition at her old school. In June 2004, a spin-off comic was created by S. Belmar named Venus Ascending. This features most of the regular Venus Envy characters in a futuristic science-fiction setting, but does not tie into the main continuity at all. External links
