Slovene
expressionist
painter
,
graphic artist
and
photographer
. Pilon was born in
Ajdovščina
,
Slovenia
(at that time Ajdovščina was still a part of
Austria-Hungary
). After graduating from secondary school in
Gorizia
, he joined the Austrian army during
World War I
. He was taken to
Russia
as a
prisoner of war
, an experience which he describes in his book
Na robu
("On the Edge"). He returned to Ajdovščina in
1919
, where he took up painting.
Some of his paintings
are available on the Pilon Gallery website. In the late
1920s
Pilon moved to
Paris
where he explored photography. Some of those photos can be seen here:
