Venezuelan Capital District

Capital District (Spanish: Distrito Capital) is the capital area of Venezuela which is placed at the same rank of states. It holds only one municipality: Libertador, and covers an area of 433 km². There is no politial unit for governing the Capital District. Once the Federal District had had the government with its governor but the reform in 2000 founded the Metropolitan District of Caracas and gave it the jurisdiction over one municipality of the Capital District and four municipalities of the Miranda State. From this point on the renamed Capital District has been no entity of itself. The state borders on the states of Vargas and Miranda. As of 2001, it had a population of 1,836,286 inhabitants.
