Venetian Snares

Venetian Snares is the performing name of Aaron Funk, an electronic music producer and performer from Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada. He is known for making experimental IDM and breakcore in non-4/4 time signatures, and has released albums on the History of the Future, Isolate, Addict, Zod, Distort, Low-Res, Planet Mu, Sublight and Hymen record labels. His 2003 album was entitled The Chocolate Wheelchair Album, and incorporates a number of samples, including the theme from Coronation Street (a popular British soap opera), a rendition of the theme tune to Sesame Street, Doctor Who and samples from the Disney film The Love Bug. In 2004, he released a remix of the Boom Bip track The Unthinkable feat. Buck65 on the album Corymb on Lex Records. That album also included remixes by Boards of Canada, Four Tet, and cLOUDDEAD. Reactions to his music are diverse. It proves too intense for some, although an equal number of electronica fans connect with his unique and innovative style. He is rapidly developing a cult like following in the scene, especially within the online community.
