Velasco, Texas

Founded in 1831, Velasco, TX is situated on the east side of the Brazos River in southeast Texas. It is sixteen miles south of Angleton, TX and four miles from the Gulf of Mexico. In 1836, Velasco was made the site of the temporary capital of the Republic of Texas by President David G. Burnett. With an estimated population of 4,000 in 1956, Velasco was incorporated with the City of Freeport on July 27, 1957.
