Vanyel Ashkevron is the main character of a trilogy of books by author Mercedes Lackey. Vanyel was a spoiled boy of noble birth who rose to become the most powerful mage ever in Valdemar, and one of the most powerful in the history of Velgarth. Vanyel is also important because he was the first of Mercedes Lackey's main characters to be openly homosexual, thought there were other notable gay characters, just as Keren, Ylsa and Sherril from the arrows trilogy.
