Vanbrugh College (University Of York)Vanbrugh College is a college of the University of York, a UK university. Vanbrugh College was opened in 1968. Vanbrugh College is home to the History and History of Art departments as well as 166 undergraduates and 18 graduate students. The College There are four residential blocks, A, B, C and X block as well as two large lecture theatres and a Computing Service computer room. Social space includes a large dining hall, bar, JCR, SCR as well as Vanbrugh Stalls, a location in the middle of campus where event tickets are sold. Vanbrugh also has off-campus accommodation at Fairfax House which is aproximatly 10 minutes walk from the main college building. The condition of accommodation, having been built using the 60's CLASP system of prefabricated concrete blocks is not the best at the university however some have felt this creates some of the best college spirit on Campus. The A, B, C and Teaching Blocks are built in a square with a grassed area in the middle known as the Quad. The Dining Hall extends out of the Teaching Block towards the lake, while X Block is a seperate building on the corner between A and B Blocks. All blocks are three storeys high. X Block, also known as Grimston House, contains offices for the Students Union as well as Your:Books, the Union second hand book store. Between A and X Block the old Vanbrugh Cleaners Cupboard has been taken over by University Radio York which broadcast radio locally at the 1350AM Radio Frequency. All residents of Vanbrugh College are members of the JCR, and continue to remain members after they move into Private Accommodation after the first year. The JCR is run by the Junior Common Room Committee (JCRC) which consists of many positions. The JCRC is meant to represent the views of the JCR, however its main reason for existence as far as most students are concerned is to run Planet V. External links
