ValldemossaValldemossa is a village in Majorca, Spain. It is home to a monastery that since the 19th century has housed several prominent guests, most famously the composer Frederic Chopin and French writer and pre-feminist George Sand (who had a ten year affair with the Polish composer and wrote her acclaimed novel "A Winter in Majorca" based on their visit). Nicaraguan poet Rubn Daro cured his alcoholism at the monastery, and Argentine short-story writer Jorge Luis Borges lived in the town with his family. Since then, actor Michael Douglas and his wife, academy-award winner Catherine Zeta Jones, have become Valldemossa's most prominent visitors. Douglas' home, a castle once owned by the local mistress of an Austrian Archduke, has been featured in Architectural Digest magazine and is most famous for not having a downstairs bathroom.
