Vacuum State

In quantum field theory, the vacuum state, usually denoted |0\rangle, is the element of the Hilbert space with the lowest possible energy, and therefore containing no physical particles. It also happens to be Poincar invariant. See also vacuum. It is analogous to the ground state of the quantum harmonic oscillator.
