Uta Trax

TRAX is a light rail system located in Salt Lake City, Utah and is operated by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). The main line, constructed in 1999 in anticipation of the 2002 Winter Olympics, has sixteen stops. It runs from the Delta Center in downtown Salt Lake City and ends at 10000 South, at the Sandy Civic Center in Sandy. In 2001 a line was constructed from the Gallivan Plaza eastward to Rice-Eccles Stadium in the University of Utah. In 2003 the University line was extended northeastward past the Huntsman Center, Fort Douglas, and ending at the University Medical Center. The University line has seven stops, making 23 total for the entire system. Several lines have been proposed for the future. One has been planned to jut from Murray into West Jordan and South Jordan, another extending southward to Draper, another west to Salt Lake City International Airport and another from South Salt Lake to the E-Center in West Valley City. A date has not been set on either of these proposed lines. In the long term lines may be constructed into South Davis County, possibly to connect to the Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington, and one into North Utah County. If these lines are constructed they would be finished after 2020. There is still a debate on whether a proposed line into the Salt Lake City neighborhood of Sugar House will be part of TRAX or the planned commuter rail.
