USS Walke (DD-416), named for Rear Admiral Henry A. Walke USN (1809-1896), was a Sims-class destroyer in the United States Navy. Walke was laid down by the Naval Shipyard at Boston in Massachusetts on 31 May 1938, launched on 20 October 1939 by Mrs. Clarence Dillon, grandniece of Rear Admiral Walke and commissioned on 27 April 1940. Walke operated with the Neutrality Patrol in the Caribbean and was transferred to the Pacific in December 1941. USS Walke was hit by a torpedo and a salvo of shells from one of the Japanese light cruisers during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on 15 November 1942 and sank with the loss of 82 of her crew. She was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 13 January 1943. See USS Walke for other ships of this name. Walke
