Uss Thrasher

Three ships of the United States Navy have been named USS ''Thrasher'' for the thrasher, a thrush-like bird known as a singer and mimic. The first Thrasher (SS-26), which served before World War I, was renamed G-4 before she was launched. The second USS Thrasher was a civilian motorboat commissioned during World War I. Originally named Petrel, she was renamed Thrasher to avoid confusion with Petrel (PG-2). At some point she lost the name Thrasher as well, becoming only SP-546. The third Thrasher (MSC-203) was a Redwing-class minesweeper that served during the early Cold War.
