Uss Saratoga

• The first Saratoga was a 16-gun sloop launched in 1780 and lost at sea the following year.

• The second Saratoga was a corvette built on Lake Champlain for service in the War of 1812.

• The third Saratoga was a sloop-of-war commissioned 1843 and served until 1888.

• The fourth Saratoga was the cruiser New York renamed.

• The fifth Saratoga (CV-3) was the third aircraft carrier of the Navy, commissioned in 1927 and active in World War II.

• The sixth Saratoga (CV-60) was also an aircraft carrier, commissioned 1952, decommissioned 1994 and proposed to become a museum ship (see www.saratogamuseum.org).
