Uss Nerka

USS ''Nerka is a fictitious submarine in Edward L. Beach's novel, Run Silent, Run Deep. The book was made into a movie, in which the part of the Nerka was played by USS Redfish'' (SS-395). Construction of USS Nerka (SS-380), named for the nerka, a lake and river salmon (Oncorhinchus nerka) of the Pacific Northwest, also called blueback, sawqui, red salmon, and redfish, was authorized during World War II, but cancelled in July 1944.
