Uss Massachusetts (Bb-54)

USS Massachusetts (BB-54) was a South Dakota-class battleship, the sixth United States Navy ship to be named in honor of the sixth state. Her keel was laid down on 4 April 1921 by the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation. Her construction was suspended on 8 February 1922 at 11 percent complete, and canceled 17 August 1923 in accordance with the provisions of the Washington Naval Treaty. She was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 24 August 1923, and her unfinished hull was sold to the Steel Scrap Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 8 November 1923 for scrapping on the slipway.
