Uss Indiana (Bb-50)

USS Indiana (BB-50) was cancelled prior to completion. Indiana was scheduled to be a South Dakota-class battleship, the third United States Navy ship to be named in honor of the 19th state. Her keel was laid down on 1 November 1920 by the New York Navy Yard. Her construction was suspended on 8 February 1922 at 34.7 percent complete, and canceled 17 August 1923 in accordance with the provisions of the Washington Naval Treaty. She was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 24 August 1923 and sold on 25 October 1923 to be scrapped. The armor plate in storage that was reserved for the ship was used to reinforce the defenses and locks at the Panama Canal. See USS Indiana for other ships of this name Indiana Indiana
