Uss Equinox

In the Star Trek fictional universe, the USS Equinox (NCC-72381) was a Nova class starship in Starfleet under the command of Captain Rudy Ransom. He was a renowned exo-biologist who had made first contact with the Yridians, a species thought to be extinct by the United Federation of Planets and the Borg Collective. The Equinox, like the USS Voyager, was transported to the Delta Quadrant of the galaxy by an alien entity named the Caretaker in 2371. While returning to the Alpha Quadrant, the crew and ship took heavy damage and casualties in conflicts with aliens. By 2375, the ship was severely damaged and running on thrusters when the Equinox encountered an alien race named the Ankari, who exposed the crew to nucleogenic life-forms made of antimatter. The crew constructed a containment field to harvest these life-forms in an attempt to increase the ship's speed. After encountering the USS Voyager, the Equinox was shortly thereafter destroyed by others of the same species, who detonated the Equinox's warp core. The surviving Equinox crew members were taken aboard the USS Voyager, stripped of rank for their actions and returned to service as crewmen under heavy supervision. Captain Ransom was killed when his ship was destroyed; he was piloting the Equinox away from Voyager to prevent both ships being destroyed in the resulting explosion.
