Usns Sacagawea

Three uncommissioned ships operated by the United States Navy have been named Sacagawea for Sacagawea, the Shoshone woman who acted as guide and interpreter for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. They are among the few United States Navy ships named for women. The first and second Sacagaweas were yard tugs. YT-241 operated in 1942, and YT-326 operated from 1942 to 1945. The third Sacagawea (T-AKE-2), a Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship, is scheduled to enter service in September 2005.
