Upper Gastrointestinal Bleed

Upper gastrointestinal bleed or upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage is a bleed from a lesion proximal to the ligament of Treitz, which connects the fourth portion of the duodenum to the splenic flexure of the large intestine. It can cause hematemesis, coffee ground vomiting, melena and also hematochezia if very severe.
