University Of Ljubljana

The University of Ljubljana (in Slovenian, Univerza v Ljubljani; in Latin, Universitas Labacensis) is the first and the largest university in Slovenia. The university is located in the city of Ljubljana. Although certain academies (notably of philosophy and theology) were established as early as the 17th century, the university as such had first been founded in 1810 under the French rule of Napoleon, named Ecoles centrales, but was soon afterwards disbanded when the Austrian government regained control. The university under its current name was only founded in 1919 with 5 faculties (law, philosophy, technology, theology and medicine). The main building of the university, Rektorat Univerze (Kongresni trg 12, SI - 1000 Ljubljana), situated in the very centre of Ljubljana, was designed first as a state mansion in 1902 by I V Hrasky, and was later remodelled by a Czech architect from Vienna, Josip Hudetz.

List of University Members
