University Of Seville

The University of Seville or sometimes Seville University, in Spanish Universidad de Sevilla, is a university in Seville, Spain.

Organization

It comprises of
  • Governed by the Department Council (Consejo de Departamento): The Departments
  • Governed by Centre Council (Junta de Centro): consists of
    • Faculties,
    • Technical Sciences Schools (Escuelas Tcnicas Superiores), and
    • University Schools (Escuelas Universitarias).

History

The University originated in late 15th century as the School of Blessed Mary of Jesus (Colegio de Santa Mara de Jess), founded by Archdeacon Maese Rodrigo Fernndez de Santaella. In 1551, the city council granted a General Study Centre (Estudio General), which enabled the School to become a university.

Miscellanea

Since March, 2002, the University has been providing the entire website space for the Enciclopedia Libre, founded by former Spanish-speaking Wikipedians.
