United Kingdom In The Eurovision Song Contest 1967The United Kingdom held a national preselection to choose the song that would go to the Eurovision Song Contest 1967. It was held on February 25, 1967 and presented by Rolf Harris. Harris's weekly show had been the showcase for the songs in the competition, which had featured in successive weeks. Harris himself would be the BBC's commentator on the actual song contest. The selection of Sandie Shaw as the singer was something of a departure; in recognition of changing trends in the contest, she was the first real "pop" star to be chosen as the UK representative. Results "Puppet on a String" won the national and went on to win the contest and be top of the UK pop charts. "Tell the Boys", which came second, was recorded as the "B" side. | |
