Union Gap, WashingtonUnion Gap is a city located in Yakima County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,621. History Union Gap was officially incorporated on November 23, 1883. Geography Gap is located at 46°33'30" North, 120°29'26" West (46.558237, -120.490566). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.0 km² (5.0 mi²). 13.0 km² (5.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.20% is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,621 people, 2,070 households, and 1,407 families residing in the city. The population density is 431.5/km² (1,117.7/mi²). There are 2,210 housing units at an average density of 169.6/km² (439.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 72.19% White, 0.41% African American, 2.24% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 20.17% from other races, and 4.32% from two or more races. 29.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,070 households out of which 33.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.7% are married couples living together, 14.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.0% are non-families. 26.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.20. In the city the population is spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.3 males. The median income for a household in the city is $30,676, and the median income for a family is $34,795. Males have a median income of $25,802 versus $23,393 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,102. 18.0% of the population and 14.9% of families are below the poverty line.
