Ulhas

A river that flows in the Raigad and Thane districts of Maharashtra, with its origins at the foothills of the Sahyadri near Karjat. It flows north to Ulhasnagar (to which it gives its name) and onto Kalyan, where it turns west to Thane, where a narrow channel connects it to the Thane Creek, while the river itself (though now mistaken as Thane Creek) turns northwestward to Ghodbunder, where it opens into an estuary called the Vasai Creek. It is the site of the historical ports of Kalyan, Kopri (Chersonesus/Coprostaneum) and Shurparaka (now Sopara).
