Uinta County is a county located in the state of Wyoming. As of 2000, the population is 19,742. Its county seat is Evanston ⁶.

History

Unita County was organized in 1869.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 5,407 km² (2,088 mi²). 5,391 km² (2,082 mi²) of it is land and 15 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.28% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 19,742 people, 6,823 households, and 5,144 families residing in the county. The population density is 4/km² (10/mi²). There are 8,011 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.32% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 0.87% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 2.86% from other races, and 1.50% from two or more races. 5.34% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,823 households out of which 44.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.20% are married couples living together, 9.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.60% are non-families. 20.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.84 and the average family size is 3.31. In the county the population is spread out with 33.50% under the age of 18, 9.00% from 18 to 24, 29.20% from 25 to 44, 21.40% from 45 to 64, and 7.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 103.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.30 males. The median income for a household in the county is $44,544, and the median income for a family is $49,520. Males have a median income of $37,500 versus $21,450 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,994. 9.90% of the population and 7.80% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.90% of those under the age of 18 and 7.30% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
