U.s.s. Farragut

A Constitution-class Starfleet vessel, registry number NCC-1647, commanded by Captain Garrovick. The Farragut's helmsman was a young James T. Kirk, fresh out of Starfleet Academy. In the early 2250's, the Farragut encountered a creature in space which attacked the ship and killed half the crew, including the Captain. The ship's sole surviving bridge officers were the first officer and Kirk. After the disaster, Kirk carried a terrible burden of guilt for many years, believing that his hesitation to fire the Farragut's phasers at the creature had contributed to the crew's deaths. It was not until Kirk encountered the creature again that he realized phaser fire had no effect on the creature. Many years after the loss of the Farragut, Starfleet gave the name to a Nebula-class starship. This new Farragut appeared onscreen in (it was one of three Starfleet vessels sent to evacuate survivors of the crashed Enterprise-D) and was destroyed during the time of .
