U.s. Highway 278

U.S. Highway 278 is a spur of U.S. Highway 78. It currently runs for 1,074 miles (1,728km) from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to Wickes, Arkansas at U.S. Highway 59. It passes through the states of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas. It goes through the cities of Augusta, Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia, Gadsden, Alabama, and Tupelo, Mississippi. In Atlanta, it is known as North Avenue. Outside the Perimiter, it is briefly the Stone Mountain Expressway, a divided and limited-access highway east to Stone Mountain, Georgia. Until early 2005, US 278 was only signed in Mississippi from the Alabama state line to US 45 west of Amory, Mississippi.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/seroads/message/4440
