Tynemouth
Tynemouth
is a historic village in
Tyne and Wear

, situated at the mouth of the
River Tyne
, between
North Shields
and
Whitley Bay
. It is administered as part of the borough of
North Tyneside
, but until
1974
was an independent
county borough
in its own right. A statue of
Lord Collingwood
, who took command the
Battle of Trafalgar
upon the death of
Admiral Nelson
, looks out over the Mouth of the Tyne. The statue features the original cannons from his ship, 'Royal Sovereign'. It is the site of
Tynemouth Castle
and Priory.
