Tv3 Medford

TV3

TV3 is Medford's Public Access television station. It is open to all members of the community of Medford, Massachusetts to come and make their own content. They have facilities, television equipment, cable time and staff dedicated to help people.

History

Public Access is an extension of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Cable Act of 1982 mandated that a certain amount of "cable space" be made available to persons who would not ordinarily have access to public airwaves. The whole purpose of access is to give the broadest spectrum of people an opportunity to communicate their ideas with each other, without the worry of government censorship. Comcast Cable is Medfords current cable service provider. By contract they provide access on three separate channels: TV 3 (a non-profit operation), Channel 15 (educational access) and Channel 16 (governmental or municipal access).
