Tropfest

The Tropfest short film festival is held in Sydney, Australia each year. It got its name from the Tropicana Cafe in Darlinghurst, a inner-eastern suburb of Sydney. Originally created by John Polson the first festival was screened on the wall of the Tropicana cafe in 1993 with a small video projector. In 2003 there were over 700 entrants to the festival and 16 finalists were screened in public parks and cafes around Australia. In Sydney, over 100,000 people packed into the Domain Park to watch the finalists on large video screens. The winners are nominated by a panel of judges, which includes well known Australian film directors, actors, screen writers, producers and the previous Tropfest winner.
