Trojane

Trojane (Latin Atrans), is a town in Central Slovenia. It lies on the hill near the border of two Slovene regions Carniola (Kranjska) and Styria (tajerska). Ancient Romans have built a Roman road spanning Aquileia-Emona-Atrans-Celeia. This was a very important road, military, post and market place, and the town was surrounded by a defensive wall. The archaeological remains of Atrans can be still seen in Trojane. In the Roman Empire Trojane (Atrans) was on the border between Italy and the province of Noricum. A famous Trojane's doughnuts, originally with apricot jam filling are well known.
