Triton (Novel)

Triton (1976) is a science fiction/fantasy novel by Samuel Delany. It was nominated for a Nebula Award in the same category. The story is set in the future. Humanity has colonized several parts of the Solar System. Those living outside the Earth have less and less in common with their ancestral home. The main characters live on the moon Triton. They are part of an artistic troupe with a cultural and moral outlook outside the mainstream. Future technology has modified humanity very deeply, for example a man can have a female breast implanted on his body and help suckle his children. The story also chronicles a war that is breathtakingly futuristic. Small numbers of warriors cause vast destruction in a negligible period of time. The worlds created by Delany's imagination are disconcerting but resonate with changes in the years since the book's publication.
