Treat Her Right

Formed in Boston in 1984, Treat Her Right is most often remembered as the forerunner to the ground-breaking rock group Morphine. The band featured Mark Sandman on guitar and vocals, Billy Conway on drums (Sandman and Conway went on to form the nucleus of Morphine), Dave Champagne on guitar and vocals, and Jim Fitting on harmonica and vocals. During the course of their seven years together, they released three albums; 1986's self-titled debut, 1989's Tied To the Tracks, and 1991's What's Good For You. In addition to being the forerunner to Morphine, Treat Her Right is often credited with being helping to spawn the punk-blues trend that took root in the early 2000's. Although more blues based than Morphine, Treat Her Right sowed the seeds of Sandman's later sound with its unusual instrumentation (Sandman's guitar was heavily effected to make it play more like a bass) and slightly dark focus. This is most evident on the Sandman-penned songs.
